Meditation is a cornerstone of yoga.  The postures and movements of yoga are designed to make the body ready for meditation. Yoga strengthens the abs and the back so that a student can sit comfortably for long periods of time.  It also aids in flexibility of the spine, so that the body's natural energy can flow eaasily.  Yoga postures and breathing techniques serve to bring the right and left hemispheres in sync, balancing one's thought processes and helping with focus and concentration.
